A portrait of two unique Homo Sapiens Idioticus. Partners in crime who together found everything you can do with knives.
The structure is their small, unsafe universe where knives and other objects hang that could fall down at any moment.
If you push this button, objects can fall. Immediately… or with a little delay. An unhealthy mix of knife throwing, a rebellious computer and lots of bad ideas.
“Us” is a collaboration between Joris Verbeeren and Simone Scaini.
While making the show they were inspired by their everyday lives and common passions.
Simone is a former acrobat and Joris a juggler, for this show they dived in the world of knife throwing and have been researching this traditional circus technique for three years.
Looking to create a form between traditional and contemporary circus, the performers use influences from juggling, slapstick, Japanese cooking, flairtending and magic.
Stepping away from the classic knife thrower and his assistant they still look for the danger and excitement we all love in the classic circus.
Next to the circus disciplines used in the show, the duo has been developing the third player in the show: The Structure.
About 100 objects are hung to the structure and can fall down at any moment controlled with a computer.
For this the duo developed their own system and software.
All theatre effects are completely controlled by the performers from the stage.
Impossible not to make something funny.
The show combines skill and technology with comedy.
