«Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?»
As if beauty were a challenge, a competition with oneself as much as with others. Be that as it may: here is a woman ready to fight. Every means will be employed, even the most absurd, to tame, constrain, shape, and master her body … She will spare herself nothing to be beautiful. Belle à mourir.
Belle à mourir is about the female body and the contradictory dictates imposed upon it. In an aesthetic reminiscent of catwalks and sports competitions, a woman struggles to become the image from magazines. Blending circus, dance, and magic, she offers us a demonstration as spectacular as it is excessive. Gestures usually confined to the intimate space of a bathroom are suddenly exposed to view, highlighted with a distance that is often comical, sometimes unsettling.
